Our world is mesmerized by beauty, and it always has been. Sister Frances Teresa, in The Living Mirror, “Beauty is our surest image of the loveliness of God, it is the only truly irresistible attraction. It is beauty which draws us, beauty which is the major current in our deepest ocean” (61). Beauty is, essentially, the deepest core of who we are… ~Megan Don, in Sacred Companions Sacred Community: Reflections with Clare of Assisi, p. 18
Beauty is startling. She wears a gold shawl in the summer and sells seven kinds of honey at the flea market. She is young and old at once, my daughter and my grandmother. In school she excelled in mathematics and poetry. She doesn’t anger easily but she was annoyed with the journalist who kept asking about her favorites – as if beauty had one favorite color or one favorite flower. She doesn’t mind questions and she is fond of riddles. Beauty will dance with anyone who is brave enough to ask her. ~from The Book of Qualities, J. Ruth Gendler
